Scott Black is jazz bassist and trumpeter who has been performing and teaching jazz since graduating from Indiana University in 1976 with a degree in Jazz Studies. Upon graduation he lived and worked in New York for six years, Chicago for 20 years and Tucson the last three years. He has studied and worked with the leading teachers in jazz including David Baker, Jamey Aebersold, Paul Jefferies, and Barry Harris. Scott has developed a clear and concise method of teaching improvisation that gets students understanding and playing the language of jazz from the first lesson.

Scott has taught jazz to all instruments for 30 years and was an interim professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1983 and has been the director of his own jazz school teaching jazz to students of all ages. In Tucson, Scott taught for the Tucson Jazz Society's JazzWerx program in 2003-2004. One of the busiest musicians in Tucson he performs regularly with the city's finest musicians; Greg Armstrong, Jeff Haskell, Fred Hayes, Ed DeLucia, etc. Scott is proud to be working currently with the Arizona Jazz Academy helping to make it one of the finest and most innovative jazz education programs in the country.
